Five
emcees and a producer. Hailing from Fresno,
California, the six-member crew contributed to the resurgence of the
Central California hip-hop scene when they began performing, and
have since become one of the premier upcoming crews of the central
valley.
While finding their niche in the hip-hop scene, they have not
constricted themselves, performing with many bands from a variety of
musical genres including: hip-hop, rap, punk rock, heavy metal,
dance, country, r&b, jazz, alternative, Latin, and easy listening. |
The Basement has performed throughout
California with prominent names in hip-hop including Mos Def, Talib Kweli,
KRS-One, Common, The Roots, Souls of
Mischief, Saul WIlliams, Aceyalone, Living Legends, Planet Asia, Styles
of Beyond, Mood, Zion I, Encore, Medusa, Burning Star, Black Eyed Peas,
and Little Brother.
The Basement has also performed at countless benefit shows, festivals,
and many other events.
Releases from The Basement include "The
Lost Book" album in 2000, "Constellations" single in 2000, "Creative
Influence Compilation" (a compilation of music from the California
underground scene) in 2000, and the most recent "Stargazing: Just
Another Late Night" album in 2002.
Members of The Basement have also pursued other
music endeavors outside the group. Two members,
Haft and
Iron Sheik, form a splinter group called
Crimson Guard, and recently released their second album titled "Clan
of Arashikage".
Mister Milin became a founding member of a
Davis-based group called Nostalgic Progression and released "Phonograph
Timepod" album in 2002.
Trunks the Hypnotic has recently
released his solo album "Insert Your Color".
Sohrab also has a solo project that is
currently in the works.
The Basement has been featured on radio stations across the United
States, as well as news media and publications. The
group has also been covered by various internet websites, such as garageband.com, where the group's underground single "Natural" was dubbed the "#1 Underground Hip-Hop Track"
in 2002.
